Sonnet

SONNET
get out of my dream factory!
it's 5:52 and even the birds
outside sound like they're
facing an impossible sun.
i can't find you anywhere awake
my eyes are like buckets
dragging through
your thighs, no: fingernails.
the license plates in front of me
don't spell out any words at all.
you make forgetting
look so easy.
last night, the bar played the saddest songs.
like someone was going away.
